Langley High School’s Case Day is an annual mock trial conducted by the school’s senior government students. Case Day unites the entire school for a comprehensive look into the American judicial system and the inner workings of the Supreme Court. “One of the greatest educational programs of its kind," Case Day provides a new perspective of the judiciary through information presented by interest groups and student debaters. This event would not be possible without the hard work of coordinators, committee chairs and members, and teachers.

In 2004, Arizona passed Proposition 200, requiring all voters to provide evidence of citizenship before registering to vote or casting a ballot. As a response, the plaintiff, the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona sued the state, arguing that Proposition 200 was inconsistent with the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA), which requires states to “accept and use” a voter registration form created by the Electoral Assistance Commission (EAC). Arizona argued for presumption against preemption; Inter Tribal also found the citizenship requirement to be unconstitutional because it was a violation of the US Constitution’s election clause. In the Ninth Circuit, the citizenship requirement was struck down, as the NVRA nullifies Proposition 200’s requirement by preemption. The Supreme Court granted review of the case on October 15th, 2012.
