Teacher Q&A
  1. Why is Case Day important to you?
Mr. Herzig: Case Day is important to me because it helps bring the Supreme Court and the American justice system to life for students.
Mr. Kissling: Case day is an opportunity for students to take ownership of what they are learning. It’s an experiential learning exercise that allows students to make polls, instead of just reading about them; to actively moot the Court instead of simply memorizing cases; and to engage in government and show the school/parents/community what they can learn for the sake of learning and not just for a test. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating academic work, and I’m proud to have worked with the program for 5 years.
  2. What part of Case Day are you most excited about?
Mr. Kissling : I’m looking forward to seeing what the class of 2013 can do. Each year the student presentations are different, the debates can be entertaining and though provoking, the guest speakers can open my eyes to something I hadn’t considered, and some student (or group) unexpectedly impresses. I am always surprised by some part of the day and that is what I’m looking forward to. It’s a lot of work, but an incredible experience that is unique to Langley.
  3. What part of case day is most important/special for you since you oversee it?
Mr. Herzig : I most closely oversee the Counsel and Justice preparation along with Mrs. Cohen and Mr. Kissling, which is a nice way of saying that Mrs. Cohen and Mr. Kissling do EVERYTHING, so the Oral Arguments are most special to me.

Coordinators
  1. Zack Dailey: "I am looking forward to seeing all of the students' and teachers' enthusiasm about the events in the days leading up to and on Case Day. This event is a collaboration of almost the entire senior class and I am looking forward to see everyone's hard work pay off!"
  2. Jenny Rossberg: "Case Day is an annual celebration of everything that makes Langley great. So many different groups of kids get involved. Clubs from every corner of the school participate, and we build this really cool intellectual event. This year, I'm looking forward to hearing the oral arguments because they are the heart of the case. It's so exciting to watch the justices grilling the kids; you can tell everyone has worked really hard for this moment."
  3. Sarah White: "I think I'm most looking forward to getting a taste of a realistic Supreme Court case. Having this opportunity really fleshes out what we learn in government and makes it relevant."
